The Being Cool for School program
provides new outfits and school supplies. Clients
register their children for our special shopping day that takes
place in August. In 2009, the Being Cool for School program
reached record numbers with more than 1,000 children attending and
distributing over 30,000 brand new clothing and school supplies to
children in need!
Children are allowed to select their
own clothing and school supplies. Just like shopping
in a real store! This is a growing program - our first
year (2006) we distributed 2,400 items to 340 children compared
to our third year (2008) when we distributed 18,000 items to
700 children. Children received three tops, one pair of pants,
one pair of socks and underwear, a gift certificate for shoes
and a back pack filled with school supplies.
The Letter that inspired the program!
Hi,
I like the Community Clothes Closet because my mom comes home with nice clothes
and shoes. I know that if she didn’t go there I wouldn’t look so cool. I
really liked it when she brought school supplies home for me and my brothers.
People should give to the Community Clothes Closet so people with merely
any money can look cool too! Matthew
